Learning and Teaching Centre building works – Guidance for students living close to the site
We will be starting our planned works in April 2019 to demolish the John Crank building on the Quad ready for our new Learning and Teaching Centre to be built in its place.
We are working with our contractors to make sure this is managed in a way that causes you the least amount of disruption possible.
However, as you live in Halls close to the site, we can’t rule out the possibility that you might hear some noise in the middle of the day while the work takes place. Because of this we are providing quiet study spaces in a different part of campus so that you can study as normal at these times.
We appreciate that this is an inconvenience at an important time of year, and so we would also like to offer you a reduction in your rent during the revision and exam period from when the works start until 29 May 2019.
This reduction will apply to students who live in Halls of Residence closest to the John Crank building (Maria Grey Hall, Southwark Hall, Stockwell Hall and Gordon Hall) and the amount of reduction will depend on how close your room is to the site (see below).
We invited students to a briefing session last week, where Professor Bill Leahy (Vice-Provost for Students, Staff and Civic Engagement) was able to tell them more about the project and answer any questions they had.
Those questions and answers have been included below, but if we have missed anything There are a number of people you can contact if you have any questions or concerns, have a look here.
